Why is YOUR epilator not working ?

Troubleshooting guide to solve common problems with your epilator.

What You Need To Know

When a Braun Silk-épil 9 stops spinning, the cause is usually simple. Here are the main things to check:

Power and Battery

  • First, make sure the device is charged.
  • If a red light stays on EVEN after charging, the battery is no longer usable and needs replacement.

👉 In this case, you need to consider a Braun Silk-épil 9 battery replacement.

Some Braun models (e.g. Silk-épil 7) allow for easier battery replacement. On newer models like the Silk-épil 9 Flex, battery replacement requires complete disassembly.

Dirty Epilator

  • Hair and debris often block the head.

Braun explains how to clean the epilator in the Silk-épil 9 manual:

After use, turn off the appliance and clean the epilation head:

  1. Remove the cap
  2. Brush out the tweezers while turning the tweezer element manually
  3. Take off the epilator head and gently tap it to remove hairs from inside the head
  4. If a thorough cleaning is needed, you may hold the appliance with the epilation head under hot running water
  5. Then take off the epilation head and shake off remaining water and make sure it is dry before reattaching

Recap:

  1. Switch off
  2. Remove cap
  3. Brush tweezers
  4. Tap out hairs
  5. Rinse if needed
  6. Dry before use

Clogged gears

  • Hair and debris can block the inside gears of the epilator.

In this case you need to open the head and clean the mechanism.

When hair gets caught inside, the gears slow down or stop completely. This not only makes epilation more painful, but also puts extra strain on the motor and battery. Left unchecked, it can even break the head entirely.

Step-by-step cleaning (Braun Silk-épil 9 Flex example):

  1. Remove the cap — press on both sides to release it.
  2. Unscrew the back screw inside the head using a small screwdriver.
  3. Brush the gears with an antistatic brush until all trapped hair is gone.
  4. Clean the tweezers and outside parts with a brush or under running water (if waterproof).

If the gears are too clogged or damaged, it may be better to replace the entire head rather than risk damaging the battery or motor.
